Working with Talented Golfers

  • Dean has been coaching and developing young talented golfers and tour pros to improve their game of golf.
  • Dean is currently working with many talented players.
  • Deans Assistant Joe Hewer has been working for Dean since feb 2006 were he is working in the shop running the day to day activities. He is very well liked up at the club by members and visitors.
  • Dean has been working on Joe's game during the time and he has won four club championship.

( 1handicap golfer from Frilford Heath, Jane Binning)

“I have been playing golf the past 12 years and during that time I have been tutored by many coaches in many styles but none have had Dean’s approach to the game, enthusiasm and attention to detail which I consider are second to none. Although I have only worked with Dean for a short while I can already see the affects of the changes made to my game. The changes have made me feel confident enough to play in the  County Championship and win at Tadmarton Heath Golf Club

I am very impressed by the way he keeps in contact, is genuinely interested in my performance and tournaments. This year is important for me as I am playing in many National Tournaments and therefore I feel privileged that Dean is part of my team.”

I have been working with Dean now for about a 2 year . My handicap has dropped from 24 to 6.  Dean has helped with all aspects of my games from technique through to physchology. I am now hitting the ball alot further and straighter. Dean also produced a yearly plan for me to stick including allof my goals and targets I will continue to work with Dean in the future and i have know doubt that my handicap will drop even more.

(Panpaiboon Leenutaphong - lesson feedback)

Before I went to Dean, I had a handicap of 3.4 but couldn’t consistently match it. I had no confidence with my driving; my irons were going everywhere; and I struggled to hole short putts.

Within just a short space of one week, he managed to fix all of the above. He developed a pre-shot routine (because I didn’t really have one) and helped improve my mental game significantly as well.

His way of teaching was also very effective. He didn’t cram in too much information-taught me bit by bit and went over things so I didn’t forget. He didn’t completely change my swing, but he developed on my old swing to make it more reliable by starting with the basic fundamentals such as posture, grip, etc. Some of his advices were also very basic but very helpful-such as slowing down, in my case.

The lessons were fun and enjoyable-we had a short game competition and he also showed (and taught) me some of his fascinating tricks.

Presently, my drives are unfailingly straight; my irons are constantly finding the pins; and have also gained a lot of confidence on my putting, but the best thing is that I’m consistently shooting well below my handicap.

It was a week well spent and it proved to be very valuable to my golf game.

"I have now been working with Dean for ten months  I have improved my game and awareness of the game.  Dean makes all lessons fun and explains terms in a way that anyone can understand.  We have worked on my swing fundamentals, course management skills, and the mental side of the game.  Dean has also helped me set goals and we have discussed what I need to do and work on to achieve these and what I need to do to surpass these.  I am a lot more confident in my own ability and I am now enjoying the game a lot more and forgetting the bad shots and putting them behind me. This year i won two club championships at two different courses. Dean has also worked with me in the mental aspect of the game, we have worked on different techniques to help me visualise shots better and my practise regimes have changed as I am now practising properly and not just hitting ball after ball but trying to achieve something with every shot I hit.

We have also worked on techniques such as breathing to help me pace myself and to help me concentrate for longer and harder throughout the round.

I feel my time with Dean has been beneficial and has improved my game as a whole no end.

(Saint Geniest Camille - Lesson Feedback)

I have had 3 lessons with Dean each one being an hour and a half. We worked on my posture and my stance which is very important for my golf swing. Then we did a bit of putting and chipping. He also improved my golf course management skills.

Dean explains things very well and very clearly. I am French and i could understand every word of what he was saying.

Dean is very precise in his explanations, about the golf swing which i dont have with other teachers.

I have been playing golf now for 14 years in that time my game had been relatively good I had cut my handicap which also helped me achieve a high standard of amateur golf and although this was good I was still no nearer to my dream of being a tour professional golfer and it was getting to me a lot especially when I even considered giving up what I love the most.
The various coaches I had come across were just taking my swing apart and my game was going down hill it was almost like it was the most important thing to being able to shoot a decent score.. I knew I was determined enough and all I needed was a great coach who looked at me as an individual, took into consideration my strengths, weaknesses and my playability.
I came across Dean through Roger Manners just over a year ago both of them have transformed me as a player and my outlook on the game, I feel that I have learnt so much in such a short space of time.
Dean has a unique method of teaching for almost every fault within golf as I have quite clearly found out.
My biggest fault was not practicing in the right way all I wanted to do was play and this was not good as I needed to be technically correct Dean has shown me that practice can be just as fun and fulfilling as what playing can be he also adapted something that fitted around everything else I was doing.
I feel that I am much more closer to achieving my dream now, and I am almost sure by next year I will be able to turn professional. Dean is an outstanding coach and has a lot to offer for every type of golfer.

Hi my Name is Kerstin. My Handicap is 3.6 and I played 7 years for the Austrian National team before I dropped out two years ago. Before I went to Dean to practice with him I was really sceptical because my English wasn’t that good and I haven’t practiced with him before. But I was really surprised. During my stay Dean helped me to improve my Putting, Driving, hitting Irons and Chipping. But it was the way how he worked on things with me that made me feeling confident. Before he started to change things he did a video and asked me what I think that should be changed. It was the first time that somebody worked like that on my swing but it made changes more understandable for me. Making changes is maybe the wrong word. I think improving basic fundamentals like set-up, grip, and rhythm is the right way how to explain what we worked on. He also gave me the chance to speak to a mental coach which was such a big honour to me, also that many tips, how to make practicing more interesting and fun gave me back the affection to the game, I would never miss my time practicing with Dean because he got me to think positive and to belief in me that a can make it if I really work hard. So I’m thinking about going back because these two weeks has been my most efficient practice for many years.

Aishling O'Connor who lives in Ireland, first came to see Dean in April 2006 and has been doing intensive coaching every 6 weeks since. Her handicap has gone from 25 to 6 during this time.

Gary Harris who runs The Jamega Tour.(www.jamegatour.co.uk) started working with Dean in winter 2005 were he has made vast changes to Gary's golf swing and is now going to be working hard with him through the winter months to get him ready for the tours next season.

During my year with Dean i have improved more than I have done in the past 3 years. I have had many lessons with some of the top coaches in the world who teach PGA Tour players but I struggled to improve. My consistancy was very irractic but after a few lessons with Dean i felt alot more in control of my swing and ball flight. Dean has made vast changes to my golf swing with his weird techniques but they are really starting to pay off and with a bit more practise i will be hitting the ball better than ever. I am most grateful to Dean for his enthusiasm and patience in teaching me and hopefully we will a have successful player/coach relationship for a long time to come.

Steve Ritchie PGA Professional has been working with Dean for the last seven months.  He is a young, talented, enthusiastic, up and coming player.   When Dean first met Steve he could see how talented Steve was, but that he was lacking confidence in his swing.

(Steve Ritchie - lesson feedback)

I have been a professional golfer since 1997 and I am a member of the European Challenge Tour and PGA Europro Tour for the last two years.  During my time as a professional I have seen many coaches and had many lessons. Dean Davis has been coaching me for the last 7 months.  During this time he has worked with me on my swing, short game, putting and course management.  Dean is the most in-depth coach I have worked with.  He looks at every part of my swing and technique to the point now where i'm striking the ball and hitting it further then I ever have.  With all the hard work we've done, Dean explains exactly what he expects from me, the reasons for the swing changes and how this will benefit me in the future.  For me this is an important part of a pupil/coach relationship, having complete trust and understanding. I have had many lessons with very high profile coaches, but Dean brings something different to the table. We work tirlessly on swing drills, in order to get feelings of what needs to be done.  Drills are the most effective and uncomplicated way of developing sound fundamentals and Dean's understanding of these and the golf swing is excellent.

During my time with Dean I have achieved stage 1 of the European Tour qualifying school for the first time and I shot my lowest round as a professional (8 under par). I also finished second on the 2006 Glouscester and Somerset order of merit.

The most important part of our coach/pupil relationship is Dean's enthusiasm.  He really cares about what I'm doing and how I'm performing in tournaments.  All of these qualities motivate and encourage me to work hard not only for myself but for my coach.

  • Dean works closely with Roger Manners (mind management).  Roger Manners has worked with Tour Winners Scott Drummond, Mark Foster, Bradley Dredge
  • Roger worked with Darren Clarke during the season 1998/9. During this time Darren won twice on the European tour and moved from 25 to 16 in the world rankings.

Roger Manners - Mind Management

I came across Dean through his reputation as a teacher to golfers of all abilities.  We worked together with a professional whilst he was undergoing a major swing change.  I had worked with this pro for about 8 years during which time he was coached by some of the so-called 'best coaches' in the UK.

Very quickly, he responded to Dean's teachings and is now striking the ball better than ever and has added about 20 yards to his driving distance.

Dean has individual solutions based on his unique coaching style. I have since introduced Dean to several other of my clients - elite amateurs and professionals.  All of them have improved considerably and have commented on Dean's unique methods.

Dean has a good manner, is pleasant to deal with and knows how to get results.  We share the belief that if a player has good technique and attitude and is prepared to do what it takes to succeed, then we can bring the best out of him/her.

I have no hesitation recommending Dean as a golf coach to my players.

(Richard Grassby-lesson feedback)

Deans approach to coaching is fun and inspiring. Having worked with Dean

from 2003 . My overall coaching/game has improved due to the time Dean has taken to mentor me. Deans ability to break the golf swing down into small parts and teach with expert analysis is what i believe key to his success as a top coach.

As with any golfer that wishes to improve there will be good and bad times. Deans understanding of how this effects every player is also a strong sign of why he is a excellent coach to all ability of golfers.

Over the past 4 years Dean has pushed me to take my teaching to the next level and has constantly inspired. For the better players Dean is a must. He takes players to new levels with indepth coaching which may sometimes seem a little strange always with excellent results.

(Gillian Sim-lesson feedback)

I have had about 8 lessons with Dean and i can see myself improve by leaps and bounds. I have attended several lessons at the Davisd Leadbetter school in Malaysia, pros in Singapore and Philippins but none of them have corrected my problem- chicken wing and poor release. When i first met dean in Nov 06, I explained my difficulties in improving my handicap of 11. My main goal then was to play consistent golf when i returned to Singapore for the christmas holidays. The First few lessons were focused on improving my stance position over the ball. By the third lesson i felt frustrated as i could not hit the ball on the golf course. I then realised that Dean was changing my swing and as a result my chicken wing had completly disappeared. Each lesson took a step forward in building the right swing and after the 8th lesson, my swing feels great and very natural, no chicken wing  and finally a better release of the ball. Dean was great in explaining clearly what needs to be done, giving me practise drills and excersises. Dean has been extremely patient with me, and at each step of the way showing me what needs to be done. I am extremely grateful to Dean and feel confident that when i return back to Singapore, I am confident that i can contend in my club championship.

(Tim Phillips-lesson feedback)

I have been working with Dean for about 4 months now and my golf game has improved a lot. His weird teaching ways are strange at first but always get the best results. My handicap has improved in this short amount of time.

(Mark Thompson-Lesson feedback)

I have been having lessons with Dean for over three years, after i had to reconstruct my swing following a car accident. I have always had a mistrust of golf coaches due to some bad experiences with lessons when i was a junior. Dean however has been superb. The work that we have done has been focussed around core fundamentals, set up, swing plain and tempo. Deans style of coaching is very reassuring as he takes time to explain what he wants me to achieve and how the changes will help me. As a result i trust Dean completely with my swing and value his judgement and extensive knowledge of the golf swing. I have improved greatly and really enjoy the lessons. Some of Deans teaching techniques are certainly unique and may seem strange at times but the results are amazing. I have never hit the ball so well and my destructive hook has all but completely disappeared. I would highly recommend Dean to anyone as i genuinely belive his passion for the game and coaching are an absalute must for any aspiring golfer of any ability.

Willhelm Lesteros-(lesson feedback)

Will has been having lessons with Dean for a couple of months. He is now playing on The Jamega Golf Tour and has had some promising finishes. He recently started playing golf again after a two year break so naturally he was a little but rusty, but with the help of Dean he is now starting to find some form and hitting the ball a lot better. Will is hopefully going to play on the Jamega Golf Tour full time and focus on improving his golf and continue to finish in good positions on the leaderboard.
